Imagine you’re 21 being dreaded by the idea of entering the corporate world in line with societal conventions. The pressure of entering the job market which includes people from different generations can be overwhelming. But wait! Here's where it gets interesting, I’m not in that dilemma. Want to know why? Let's find out.
As the final year of my graduation started, a growing sense of anxiety was lumping in my heart which was fueling the gnawing fear of what was to come. The reality of the situation hit me hard; once you put your foot outside the university after graduation, you’re no longer a student. You’re, basically, unemployed — unless you manage to secure a job, in the job market. But the reality is more complicated, especially when you don’t belong to one of the bustling metropolitan cities of India.
Paralyzed by the uncertainty of whether to pursue an MBA or dive into the job opportunities and start looking for work, I found myself standing at the intersections of many futures. Each decision was weighing me down. Because choosing an MBA doesn’t guarantee you’ll get into your desired college, and jumping into the corporate doesn’t ensure securing a position that aligns with your goals and doesn’t demand putting your entire life at stake by not providing the ideal work environment.
One day it hit me hard that constantly dreading the unknown won’t lead me anywhere. I had to do what it takes to move forward. But wait, that was just the beginning. When I decided to get into corporate, the next significant challenge was finding a job that truly justified the efforts they were expecting me to put in.
On the other hand, the job market is filled with positions asking for professional experience for entry-level roles. Offering salaries that are barely enough to support basic expenses and demanding overtime.
This pushed me to explore job opportunities in Bareilly. Although, I hardly had any hopes of finding the role I desired; offering meaningful work and employee satisfaction with a healthy work environment.
Yet, soon after, a friend of mine told me about a job opening in Bareilly, and that’s when I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. It was Paanduv Applications, where I found the ideal opportunity that I was looking for. Being a leading technology company specializing in computational physics, AI, and scientific software development, presented me with the opportunity to get the experience that I want; in my own home town. After all, what's better than working in tech?
The company offered what I was looking for an opportunity to gain experience while being close to home and a growth-driven environment. It felt like everything that I was looking for in the job market was within an arm’s reach.
It was a bold step, but this felt right. Undoubtedly, there was fear of the unknown about what my role would be like. Fortunately enough, the work atmosphere was very welcoming as well as– supportive and collaborative.
This is the kind of atmosphere that fuels your journey: where you not only get experience but also receive guidance and learn something new each day. In my opinion, it is the ideal place to get hands-on experience in the leading industry and develop dynamic skills. Opportunities like these are rare to find nowadays.
My time at Paanduv Applications has truly opened my eyes to new perspectives. Along the way, I’ve learned a few eye-opening lessons– the most profound being that the professional arena often overlooks the needs and potential of fresh graduates. Despite being the largest and most vital segment of the workforce, fresh graduates are often neglected by employers. Having their entire lives ahead of them, full of fresh and innovative ideas; they can be easily shaped to meet the specific needs of any industry.
However, the employment sector supports and follows unrealistic requirements that create barriers for the freshers, asking for experience for positions that, in reality, only require basic training. The job market has set expectations of demanding a perfectly cooked meal, therefore, fresh talent is being wasted. Companies offer minimal salaries to freshers on account of their lack of experience, all while ignoring their equal contribution to the company– working full-time, putting in as much effort and energy as it takes.
As luck would have it, I found a place where my potential and skills are considered of greater worth than the experience I have. And hence, it’s time to invest in fresh minds in the workforce that are eager to make a difference.
